Just a social rant
Are we social media crazy? Have you noticed how we all seemed to have changed the way we talk?
Fifteen years ago, if I said "someone is following me", I'd be advised to call the police. Nowadays we are actually asking each other: how many people are following us?
There’s an ongoing joke about types of posts we share and content we upload if we were to do that in real life people would think we are crazy, yet in some cases doing it on Social Media makes it acceptable. I once had a client sharing their night out pictures on their social media business page and when I asked: “why don’t you upload that content to your website?” they looked at me like I had three heads.
My point? As much as websites and Social Media have two different message tones if you upload something on social media that you would never upload on your website the chances are you probably should think carefully if sharing it on Social Media is a wise idea.
In saying that sometimes odd works, the key is SOMETIMES...
Let me give you an example unless you are promoting your café or sharing a special diet, why would you share everyday pictures of your breakfast. Keep it Social and clever. Do it for a month if you want but not 365 days a year... Also, don’t panic if you have only 100 followers on Twitter if those 100 are genuine and you are getting what you set out to get from that platform what is your problem?
Depending what your social media strategy it is ok to have fewer followers, sometimes too many followers make it hard to maintain good relationships and truly Be Social?
Have fun with your Marketing!
I love Social Media, but sometimes I’m left wondering if perhaps businesses are becoming lazy in their marketing by just limiting to the official platforms. Often I speak to people who neglect their websites, their marketing collateral but focus a lot of time on social media, sharing the wrong type of posts. At the risk of sounding repetitive and like a broken record for those of you who had the pleasure or not to meet me, don't just rush your marketing, Plan it ahead, trust me you will have more fun.
